SECOND TRANSPORTATION AND LOGISTICS FORUM
Once again, over 125 persons gathered on Friday,
February 19, 2010 at the Conrad Condado Plaza
Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico for the SECOND
Transportation and Logistics FORUM organized by
College of Business Administration at the Ponce
Campus of the Pontifical Catholic University of
Puerto Rico (PCUPR) and Maine Maritime Academy
(MMA) in Castine, Maine; with the collaboration
of Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) and the
Puerto Rico Shipping Association (PRSA).
Representatives of the transportation,
manufactures, business community, distributors,
wholesalers, shipping industry, homeland
security, and academia met in San Juan to
discuss trends and future of security in the
fields of transportation and logistics worldwide
and specifically in the Caribbean region.
On hand to greet and welcome the participants
were Most Reverend Felix Lázaro Martínez, Sch.
P., Bishop of Ponce, Puerto Rico and Grand
Chancellor of PCUPR; Dr. Jorge I. Vélez Arocho,
President of PCUPR, Prof. Vivianne Asad,
President of the Organizing Committee, Eng.
Carlos Urriola, President of the Caribbean
Shipping Association, Atty. Hernán F. Ayala
Rubio, President of the Puerto Rico Shipping
Association; as well as Dr. Jaime L. Santiago
Canet, Dean of the College of Business
Administration at PCUPR.
Speakers for the FORUM were: Captain Ralph Pundt,
Chair or Marine Transportation Department at
Maine Maritime Academy; Mr. Charlie Hermosa,
Vice President and General Manager for Island
Wide Logistics; Dr. Ralph Otero; Atty Rhonda
Castillo Gammill, Executive Director of Port of
the Americas; Senator Norma Burgos Andujar;
Engineer Carlos Urriola, and Mr. Edmundo
Rodríguez, President and CEO of Nestor Reyes,
Inc.
Distinguished personalities in attendance
included Mr. Fernando Rivera, Former President
of the Caribbean Shipping Association, Dr.
Hector Torres, from Banco Popular, and Mr.
Jeffrey Quiñones from US Customs and Border
Protection.
Plans are already being made for the THIRD
Transportation and Logistics FORUM to take place
in March 4, 2011.
