SELF-ESTEEM: SUGGESTIONS © Cirilo Toro Vargas, Ph.D. What can you do in order to improve your self-esteem? Let’s see some suggestions.
1. Read good books on self-improvement. These will help to think on new alternatives of doing things and how to visualize yourself positively. Some of these books are:
Browsing thru a library or bookstore you may appreciate other books that may also sound interesting. Try it. Dare to do it!
2. Keep your mind busy with positive thoughts about yourself and others. In other sections of this book you may find specific suggestions on how to do it.
3. Begin to develop
confidence in yourself. You are the most important person that exists
over the earth. There is no other person similar to you in the whole
world. Believe in yourself and the world will be surprised with the good

4. Feel proud of what you do, especially if you do them well. On the contrary, don’t let anybody interfere negatively with you. You may not change their behavior, but you can modify yours. Then, behave properly and you will set an example for others.
5. Feel proud of what you are. Identify and accept your skills and knowledge. Everybody has God given talents. Let’s use those talents to develop ourselves to the outmost. Take your occasionally for evaluating your improvement. Above all: be yourself. Don’t imitate anybody.
6. Establish short-range realistic goals. Pay attention to them and visualize how to accomplish them. Develop new skills and knowledge if they were necessary to achieve these goals.
7. Adopt the attitude of “I can.”
8. Realize that you are not perfect. Thus, you need to mature, growing spiritually and mentally. Other people are in the same position as you are. Learn to tolerate and help them. Altogether we can build a better world. All divided we may bring about the extinction of the whole universe. 9. Ask for and accept help from other people. United we stand.
10. Keep a diary of your daily good and positive deeds. It will help to evaluate yourself periodically, to visualize your goals and to improve your skills and knowledge. Dare to change positively! The world is ours and we should share it. Let’s allow that this place be a more adequate place on which to live.
