English 305 Legal English
Course Description
Requisites:
A.
If a student of the Political
Science and Law program, successful
completion of English 114, 213, and 214.
B.
If a student of the Pre-Law
Studies program, successful completion
of English 114, 115, and 213.
C.
Successful completion of nine
credits in English which must include
either English 213 or English 214.
D.
Direct placement by the
Department of English and Foreign Languages.
This course is geared primarily
towards students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in a law
school program. The course focuses on the acquisition of English legal
vocabulary and the improvement of skills involving listening and oral
communication, critical reading and thinking, and research which are
necessary to understand, analyze, and evaluate articles, essays, and
case studies in English on legal topics of interest. In addition,
students will reinforce writing skills to compose and summarize
appropriate legal documents. Students will also apply the necessary
information literacy and computer skills to effectively sustain academic
projects and research in the course.
